It was the first week of the university after the yearly break. Many people had flooded the whole campus. Some were teachers but mostly the students, specially the newly admissioned first year students who were the most enthusiastic about being there. Even though the university session had already started, many students were still joining. It was around nine fifteen in the morning, a girl was walking silently to her building. She was early to the University as usual but she didn't want to visit the class yet, there were almost forty five minutes left for the first lecture so she decided to go to the library. She didn't really wish to attend the lecture but she could not skip the class.
She went to the library slowly, her mind thinking about someone else. She went to her corner seat, she had liked this place from the first day. It had the glass window on the wall which gave a fresh view of the trees and other houses around the university as their library was on the second floor. When she was new, she had been scared on her first time but got adapted to it soon. The library was the quietest place in the whole campus. Only a few students visited here, who were mostly seniors of Masters or research line pursuing PhD.
She could stay here alone and spend her time peacefully without anyone's disturbance. Her mind was still in a chaos so she decided to distract herself and took a text book of her current course from a shelf, she adjusted her round thick glasses and sat on a chair facing the window. Her soft chubby face shining due to the morning light falling on it make her fair skin look golden and her long hairs tied in a high ponytail shone as the silky locks cascaded down her back. She dived into the book, her eyes so concentrated in it that she didn't realise how the time flew. Soon her alarm rang, she used to keep an alarm ten minutes before class so she could be on time and not get into her professor's hand for being late. She got up and collected her book and pens packing them in her pink coloured back pack.
She slung her bag and started walking to her classroom which was in the first floor. She felt her breath quicken due to anxiety on entering the room which was filled with many students. They were talking to each other and laughing with their friends. It's been almost four days and she still didn't made a single friend here. On the first day when a few students approached her, she talked to them nicely to not sound rude but stuttered a few times making them mock her. She was very nervous that day which made her fumble on her own words but they decided to make it a topic of fun. After that whenever someone talked to her the most they would do was to ask for something or merely ignore her presence. She sat on the first seat in the corner bench.
The students desks were for two students each in one bench. She used to sit alone, there were not as many students in the class because this was the extended section due to more new admissions so new students kept adding every day. Many benches were still empty but others did use to sit together. There were four rows in the class and she used to sit in the first desk on the fourth row in a corner. A few students used to sit in this row but in the back when they wanted to waste the lecture and gossip instead. The first few benches were always empty making it look like a secluded corner where only she used to sit. She didn't want to sit in the first bench but since she was sitting alone her professors used to make her sit in the front as there was plenty of space for one student and she didn't need to sit at the back.
She sat down on her seat and took out her notes copy with a blue inked ball pen. Her anxious mind made her feel more scared with each moment so she started taking deep breaths to calm her nerves down. Soon the hourly bell for the first class rang and the students settled down on their seats. The first lecture was of molecular biology an integral subject of their degree. The students were sitting obediently and the girls were looking more excited than needed. They were whispering and giggling softly as the young professor soon entered the class. He was wearing a dark wine red shirt which were folded till his elbow making his veiny strong arms visible to the young students.
His dark onyx eyes were professional and posture totally straight. As he entered the class the students stood up themselves and wished a good morning to him. He nodded and said morning in his deep voice. His eyes roamed around the class until his caught a glimpse of her. He knew every single student had their eyes on him but she was looking down at her desk as if it were more interesting than him. She kept biting her lips between her white teeth which made him feel as of she was seducing him but he decided to comprise himself and started talking about the lecture. He drew a diagram of the trombone model of the DNA replication on the board and told the students to copy it as he will check every note.
It was quite a complex diagram and would take time to draw. He took long strides roaming in the classroom acting as if to check the students and smirked as he was about to reach her. He knew every student was totally focused on the work he gave to show him how dedicated they were. Hrida who was sitting in the corner, had completed her note already while he had explained was tapping her pen anxiously on the desk as her breaths were getting shorter. It felt like her lungs were getting blocked of the air around her and she was suffocated. She knew he was coming closer each moment. He had almost reached her when the class echoed with a loud gasping voice.
"May I come in Sir "
Everyone's attention went to the door where a girl stood gasping. It looked like she just ran to the class. Travis turned around to look at her with a scrutinizing glare. She tried to breathe properly and smiled nervously saying,
" Good morn-ing sir..I'm uh Rutvi Kashyap, just got my admission process completed yesterday..sir it's my first day I was lost in the room numbers..please may I co-"
He didn't let her finish and told her to get inside the classroom. She looked confused for a moment deciding where to sit but quickly went to the first seat which she found only one student sitting there. She looked at Hrida with pleading eyes and asked politely if she could sit there. Hrida looked at professor Travis who was glaring at them but nodded. Rutvi settled down in the outer corner making Hrida sit on the other side of the seat. The professor looked frustrated, his whole plan crumbling down. He was about to have his prey near him but this girl meddled in between.
Rutvi calmed down, she was really scared. Already she had missed the first few days of her college due to the late admission process, she didn't really want to create a bad impression on the first day of her in university being late but she was confused with so many buildings. The college had around six buildings all for various departments and her designated building was four but she was confused where it was located, the campus was huge but after walking around for ten minutes she found the building it was behind the building two and she ran to find her classroom. She had entered from the other corridor and again moved around confused to find room 105 in which her first lecture was supposed to be in.
She finally found a student near the water guard machine who helped her and she ran to her class which made her almost loose her breath. She nervously looked inside the class through the small glass on the wooden door. The teacher was roaming while the students were focused on their notebooks. She opened her door without any delay and asked for the permission to enter the class, briefly introducing herself. She was grateful the professor didn't scold her and thought to take a seat but what confused her was the fact that all the first rows were filled but she finally found one seat in the corner. She wanted to sit in the frond so she asked the girl if she could sit beside her to which the girl nodded.
Once she settled down she took out her note book and looked at the white board which had a clean but complicated diagram in it. She was confused so she decided to take some help from her classmate. She asked Hrida what was going on making Hrida speak softly,it was a model of DNA replication and she needed to copy it for now. Rutvi smiled gratefully and got concentrated with the work. Hrida looked at Rutvi, she was grateful to God for sending this new student at the correct moment but her happiness flew thin into the air as she looked at the angry professor in front of her.
Mr. Escoffier looked simply pissed, his plan of getting close to Hrida went into the drain due to the girl sitting next to her. He glared at both of them but his eyes were more rageful for Hrida. She could feel his gaze and looked down at her notebook silently not wanting to look at the dreadful hunter like person in front of her. Rutvi made the diagram but got confused with the labelling. She looked at Hrida's notebook which had the systematically completed neat diagram and poked her finger on Hrida's arm. Hrida who was looking at her book till now looked at Rutvi who signed her to lend her Hrida's note so she could complete her work. Hrida nodded to which Rutvi smiled softly at her kind attitude.
Soon everyone was done with the work and Mr. Escoffier continued with the lesson giving a small brief to the students do the new comers could catch up with what he was going to explain next. Rutvi was focused on her lecture but she noticed one thing, her deskmate was a little too anxious. Hrida's eyes were cascades down mostly, fidgeting her fingers, tapping her feet or the pen. Once the class ended, Mr. Escoffier left the class not before glaring at then for once but Rutvi being oblivious to the glare focused more on Hrida. She softly poked her hand and said,
"Why are you looking so uncomfortable? Shall I move from here..if I am making you feel uncomfortable in any way? "
Rutvi's voice toned down which made Hrida feel guilty for making her feel so by her attitude. She looked at Rutvi, now feeling much better since the professor left and shook her head. Rutvi smiled brightly and told Hrida,
"I think apko pata hi hai par humara naam Rutvi hain, aur aap? "
(I think you already know but my name is Rutvi, What's yours?)
"Hrida, uh Hrida Rai Singh"
Hrida told Rutvi feeling a little shy,it was her first proper conversation with someone who was being nice and polite to her. Rutvi looked at Hrida and complimented her saying,
"Wahh boht hi pyara naam hai bilkul apki tarah."
(Woah such a lovely name just like you)
Hrida felt happy at her compliment, she blushed a little feeling shy talking to someone new. She was a very introverted person. It's not like she didn't knew how to talk but she used to talk freely only when she felt comfortable around someone and after that incident she used to feel she's inferior to others and people don't like her. She used to get anxious talking to anyone personally. People scared her, their judging eyes made her feel like she's someone unacceptable for being like this but no one cared for her reasons which made the bubbly little girl turn into a scared and anxious person.
Hrida was about to thank Rutvi but soon another professor entered the class so they had to stop their conversation. The lectures went on continuously for a few hours. Finally the bell rang for lunch break and every one started leaving the class. A few students approached Rutvi who talked to them a little but left them when she sae Hrida moving out. Hrida as usual took her lunch box and left to the food court. There were two food courts in the campus, one was for meal food which was mostly filled with the hostellers who used to have their meal in less expenditure. The other one was half shaded and half in the garden. There were few fruit trees and Hrida liked to sit under them.
Rutvi ran with her lunch box after Hrida. She looked at her sitting on a wooden bench under the shade of the tree, alone. Rutvi went to buy two cups of tea, one for her and other for Hrida in a grateful thought for helping her in all the lectures. She brought the two cups very cautiously but as soon as she turned to the place where Hrida was sitting but while walking her feet collided with the tree root which had grown on the surface and ended up losing her balance making the cups fall in order to save her lunch box and she fell on her knees too.
Hrida who saw this went quickly to help Rutvi. She extended her hand to Rutvi who took it and stood up. Hrida took her lunch box and Rutvi shook off the dirt on her knees and winced a little. She looked at Hrida and laughed feeling embarrassed at her fall. Hrida smiled reassuringly and told her to sit down. Rutvi followed her and sat down. She looked at Hrida and said,
" Haha! hum apke sath baithen? Sang mei khana khate hain "
( can I join you? Let's eat together.)
"Haan baitho na"
(Yes sit down)
Both of them sat down and started eating when Hrida told Rutvi to wait for a moment. She agreed and Hrida left,Rutvi saw her near the cash counter so she thought maybe Hrida wanted to have something. She started eating again, but then she made a call to her mother to tell her she's fine and it's lunch break now. After two or three minutes, she was done so she ended the call. She looked around and saw Hrida coming back with two cups of Tea. Hrida sat down and offered her a tea which she gladly took.
She looked at Hrida and told her she was bringing the other tea for her if Hrida would have but she fell on her way being her clumsy self. Hrida chuckled and told her she knew when she saw her coming. Both of them shared their lunch and drank the tea talking about how important tea is in life. Hrida asked Rutvi what she would have done if Hrida denied her initially to which Rutvi told her she'd drink another cup and she was sure Hrida won't say no, Tea is an emotion for Indians after all. Both started to talk and there started a new friendship blooming between both the girls.
Hrida liked talking to Rutvi she felt good having someone to mingle with and spend her time. Rutvi asked her why she was so nervous in the morning to which she said she just gets anxious in between so many people to which Rutvi agreed, even she gets anxious with many people but instead of being silent she starts talking more even if it's pure nonsense because silence scares her more. The lunch time passed really quick that day for them. Even Hrida was surprised, she usually went to the library after having her lunch in fifteen or Twenty minutes but today she forgot to visit.
Rutvi on the other hand enjoyed making a new friend, to be honest she too didn't like much people. She didn't had much of someone to call a friend before in school too as she barely spoke much with them but seeing Hrida having the same problems like her in the worser way she felt that she could try making a conversation with her. After lunch they went to the laboratory for the next class. Hrida told Rutvi about the library too and that she had to made a membership card to borrow books from there.
The day went well, Rutvi did talk to other classmates too but she looked to have more stuck to Hrida. After the college time ended they both left together but had to depart on their way since, Hrida had to take a bus for her home and Rutvi used to travel by train so needed to go to the station. They're home weren't too away from each other but the transports were much suitable for each other and they didn't like to travel the other way much. Hrida liked to travel in bus it felt safer for her and Rutvi liked trains more as they were much faster and station was much near to her house.
Once they reached home they texted each other on the phone that they had reached as they had decided to text each other before departing. Rutvi went to her home and told her mother how good her day went and that Hrida was her new friend and first friend in college. She told her mother about the morning Tragedy to the food court incident to which her mother smacked her head and told her to be more careful. She was in university now she needs to be more cautious. Rutvi laughed and agreed to be better next time. She really had a great day, she felt happy and wrote about it in her diary. On the other side Hrida was reluctant to go home she didn't really want to see him yet. She knew he must be angry but she had to go anyway. She took bus because it used to go around the longest way and took time to reach her stoppage.
Hrida went to her home, it was a small cottage which was warm and cozy. Near the cottage was a huge apartment in which he used to live, he's her old neighbor but she had to go to that place later at night. She went to her mother first and told her about her day. This was the best time of her day, the evenings with her mother made her feel home. She happily told her mother about the girl she met today. She told everything with details, how Rutvi looked and how she sounds. Her clumsy behavior and kind and understanding behavior. Her mother smiled listening to her daughter being happy after so many days, she knew Hrida didn't really liked university people but finally she got a friend.
It was around eight pm when Hrida's mother told her that he is calling her. Hrida, who was looking happy till now looked horrified as if she was summoned by a demon. She knew he will punish her today. She had ignored his order today and he was pissed at her. Hrida still got up and went to the huge mansion next to her mother's house. She went to his room where she knew he must be waiting for her. She knocked the door and soon heard a 'come in' and entered. She was really scared, she went inside to find him sitting on the bed with a plate of food. He looked at her scared form and signaled her to sit down. She went near him and sat on his lap. Her breaths were short and heavy. She was really nervous and scared of him. He was looking at her deeply with his dark onyx eyes boring on her body. She was trembling sitting on his lap.
Soon he started to feed her small bites and she chewed them without a word. Her trembling form made him feel like his little minx was seducing him. Once he has fed her, he grabbed the glass of juice. He gave her the glass of orange juice which she started to drink, she loved orange juice. Once she was done he got up and made her sit on the bed like a soft little doll. He went to the washroom as she was feeling terrified. She knew this was the silence before the storm. She kept thinking about leaving but her mind stopped her she knew leaving would make her consequences worse. She sat there until she heard his footsteps. He walked near her with Predator steps. Her breathes felt more shorter as she struggled to calm her nerves but he came and hovered over her. She looked at him scared and tried to speak,
"Sa sa sir woh ha hum"
(Actually i)
He cutted her in between and said in his deep voice,
"Not a word Preciousa"
(My precious)
With that he removed her glasses and started kissing her passionately. She felt her breath stop as he suckled on her lips fervently eating them like an animal. He held her head, his fingers on her soft long brown hairs gripping her for a deeper access. Tears started to fall down her now red face. Her pink lips had turned red due to his force. Soon black dots started to form in front of her eyes. He broke the kiss when he felt she was about to faint and said,
"Dare you to faint, you were being a bad girl today..disobeying your husband huh? "
He looked at her like an possessed person. More tears spilled out of her eyes. He was waiting for her the whole day but she didn't visit him once. He knew she had known what mess she created. She shouldn't have let Rutvi sit with her when he had signaled her to deny. But her pleading voice was undeniable. She couldn't deny when Rutvi had asked her so nicely so she denied his order. She didn't know what to do now it was already late and she had disobeyed him in front of every one. He needed to remind her whom she belongs to.
She was Travis Escoffier's official wife.
